I found this book years ago. What could a silent screen film star have to say to a 24 year old man? Plenty. The texts of the many self-help authors, speakers, teachers, ministers etc. could all be reduced to this small book because it's all here and it was before many of them were born. The overall thrust of the book is best appropriated to the "Science of Mind" philosophy of Dr. Ernest Holmes. The book is the result of Ms. Pickford's search for a philosophy, a faith, and a way of life. Although wealthy and famous, she was not immune to the human problems that beset us all from time to time. Instead of seeing God as a brutal taskmaster handing out plagues, diseases, and punishment, she found the God within that loves, upholds, and encourages. This God is far removed from hate and wrath, and shines with Love as constant as the North Star. The only way God can work with one is via thought. This is why thought is so important and plays such a large role in the philosophy of Ms. Pickford.
There are places Ms. Pickford uses what some could consider silly phrases to name her "lower self"-such as Professor Puffinfoos or Madame Flitmajigger, but even there it is worth remembering that we are today enjoined by many psychologists and therapists to find ways of breaking with our false, self-defeating, and negative "lower selves" so that we may affect cures and achieve happiness. It was true in the 1030's, the 1930's and will be true in the 3030's. Truth is unchangeable.
Ms. Pickford didn't scale a mountain to meditate with a guru, or engage in any other "New Age" practices of which I am aware, and I have studied her life pretty thoroughly. She simply made contact with the God inside her who is present, available, and constant.

Why Not Try God? Mary Pickford 9781163168233 Books Reviews
One man's struggle with multiple additions leads him to not a 12 step program but to God as well. The story shows how through God, anyone's life can be changed and our demons can be overcome.
The book is very well written and is a truly inspiring read for anyone who is dealing with any sort of addiction issues. It shows us that through faith all things are possible.
I was truly feeling down at the time and was down on my luck, when as you know that when God works, He puts things in front of you. There it was along with the dusty books on the shelf I had read years ago. How awesome that God put the opening of a page to suit my needs. Not to answer, but to instruct. A so needed source for mankind in this era of our existence. Thank you God.
Here is an interesting book written by actress Mary Pickford in 1935. She lays out her feelings as a youngster about God, how she was angry at Him, and how she thought he was “mean” to people. Then, as a grown-up, she had a revelation wherein she saw and understood how God was the solution to her problems, not the reason. It’s an uplifting book, and she encourages the reader to not let gossips and liars get the best of one’s life. This was a fast read; I read it during lunchtime. I recommend it.
nice product
Mary Pickford shares some well thought-out ideas on how to use the power of prayer and faith to bring about positive change in ourselves. Interestingly, her ideas line up well with those of Dale Carnegie in "How to Stop Worrying..." and Dr. Maxwell Maltz in "Psycho-Cybernetics." It would be nice to see a longer book, but from the looks of this reprint edition, it must have originally been produced as a pocket or purse sized booklet (3 1/2 x 5 or 4 x 6) in 1934. On the positive side, it's nice to see it reprinted exactly as is, and without any editorial additions or "modernizing." I think this powerful little volume will also serve to draw more people today to Ms. Pickford's pioneering film work. The author was much more than "just a movie star," as her writing here reveals. She was a deep thinker and philosopher who truly wished to use her fame and talent for the betterment of people everywhere. Douglas Fairbanks was more than a movie star too; he was one lucky guy.
